We are bombarded with advertising all the time. Companies that want us to buy their products. Everywhere we turn these days, this comes up before our eyes. The trick is to learn to close our eyes to what we see. Or more precisely tell our brain, our RAS in the brain that other things are more important. The RAS is a part of the brain that we send signals to what is important to us. For example, you will see pregnant women everywhere if you want to get pregnant yourself and it is because you have told your brain that pregnancy is important to you. With it, you can not only achieve your goals, but you can also tell the brain that peace and quiet is more important.
I don't see as much advertising today as I did before I became a minimalist and started practicing Slow Living. I used to see it on bus shelters, pillars, the TV, the mobile phone, yes everywhere actually. This despite the fact that advertising has increased. I've trained my eye to filter this out, I've trained my RAS that other things are more important. We can't take in all the impressions we see every day because there are so many and that's why you'll only see the car brands that you've told your RAS are important to you even though you'll be driving past tons of different brands as soon as you drive away . The fact that I don't see commercials on TV anymore may have to do with the fact that since I became a minimalist I don't watch TV anymore. And I'm not alone in wanting to stop doing it. All of a sudden, doors were opened to completely new things, things that are more important. I've realized how much time people spend, as I spent, watching someone else's life instead of living my own. Pretty depressing when you think about it. How much time do you spend developing your life and skills versus studying other people's lives through social media or fictional lives like through comics? Don't get me wrong, I think it's very good to observe other people if you learn something from it but not to sit hour after hour on social media or watch series just to escape your own reality. Then it is better to spend time and energy on changing your own reality instead.
Nature has become very important to me and it is the peace nature gives me that I have trained my brain to see. Even though I have another apartment building behind my house, it is the trees around it that draw my eyes. It is the nature around that my brain sees in the first stage. I recommend you start staying in nature, have the forest around you if you strive for a calmer life. Listen to the sounds, listen to the birds and the wind. We have so many impressions around us daily that increase our stress level. We need to find our way back to ourselves again. Realize what is really important to us as individuals. Reducing our things in the home and living more minimalistic is more beneficial for our stress levels in the body.
With the above text, I want to give you information that it is possible to change one's life. You just need to decide that you are worth investing in a change, it may take time but it is worth it. It is worth striving for the life you want to live. I've come a long way, I've changed what I can change but I still have a long way to go until I've fully reached the life I want to live. I wish you as much luck on your journey as I wish myself.
